Two lithographs. The first one is somewhat clotted and heavy--too many competing layers of color. I prefer the second version, with two layers of color; unfortunately, I printed it as an afterthought, and there's only this one.The shiny/metallic surface on the second print is the result of brushing powdered pigment on the still-tacky ink.

I actually prefer the first one; I can't believe you dislike it. (Wait, yes I can.)
I am interested in the powder brushing technique, but it's hard to judge from a photo. Remind me to look at this when I come out!
I think the first one would have worked better with different colors.
I like how the tusche wash shows up more prominently in the second print.
That is a really neat technique. What sort of pigment is it? Is it homemade?
Patrick, I used Pearl-Ex pearlescent pigment, but any dry pigment would probably work just as well, depending on what effect you want. There's a full discussion of this technique in the new Tamarind Book of Lithography. I imagine you could do the same kind of thing with screenprints.
